According to BS EN 62305, lightning current arresters are always required if an external lightning protection system has been installed. The ready-to-install system-specific SPD units of the DSP product family combine lightning equipotential bonding and/or surge protection in a compact design.
Various DSP devices for single-phase 240 V a.c. TN systems and three-phase 240/415 V TN(C)-S systems are available as 3 basic types:
- Type DSP 12 P ... stands for lightning and surge protection in one unit. The combined lightning current and surge arrester of type DEHNventil M ... entirely fulfils the requirements specified in the BS EN 62305 lightning protection standard and EN 61643-11 product standard. The DEHNventil M devices even surpass maximum requirements, e.g. regarding TOV withstand. All combined lightning current and surge arresters consist of a base part and plug-in protection modules. The protection modules
can be easily replaced by means of the innovative module releasebutton without tools. The permanent locking of the modules was certified by vibration and shock tests according to EN 60068-2.
- Type DSP 12 SH ... is equipped with the application-optimised DEHNshield combined lightning and surge current arresters. Due to its space-saving design and a discharge capacity up to 50 kA (10/350 µs), it is suitable for protecting residential buildings and special applications (see brochure No. DS193). The DEHNshield arresters offer the "wave breaker function" with a very low voltage protection level and do not require an additional backup fuse if an installation is protected by backup fuses up to 160 A. If applications are not sufficiently defined, it is advisable to use DSP 12 P … (with DEHNventil). Fulfilling the most stringent technical requirements, DEHNventil provides adequate protection at any time and is suitable for any application.
- DSP 2 P ... kits are enclosures equipped with surge protective devices, i.e. modular DEHNguard M devices. In addition to a maximum discharge capacity of 40 kA (8/20 µs) per pole, these devices especially ensure a higher reliability of SPDs due to a special SPD monitoring device "Thermo Dynamic Control". These devices also feature the module release button, which is typical for the modular device family.
All devices have been successfully subjected to several certification processes of e.g. KEMA or UL. This ensures that our products are independently tested and entirely comply with the relevant product standards.
Apart from using a basic device, a component with remote signalling contact in the form of a floating changeover contact for use with upstream monitoring devices (... A) or a unit with coordinated fuse elements (... F) can also be chosen for each type. This reduces time and effort for planning, ordering and installation to a minimum for the user. The enclosures made of shock-proof polystyrene offer a high degree of protection (IP 65) according to EN 60529 and the high quality of the device allows for installation even in critical environments such as:
damp and moist environments or rooms, ideal for use at service entrances
protected outdoor installations
In order to keep wiring as low as possible, some DSP kits provide busbars for establishing a compact, lightning current carrying connection to other DIN-rail-mounted devices, thus optimising space.
